This recording is a continuation of a formal interview with Bella Mindel and Isaak Iosipovich Vaisman. (Part 2 of 2. See MDV 354) Isaak talks about his life during World War II and his service in the Red Army. Bella remembers a story about a co-worker and his family and how they were helped by non-Jews. Isaak Vaisman's family was first evacuated to the Caucasus, but when the Germans approached the area, they were evacuated again to Uzbekistan. He was drafted into the army in 1942. He spent one year in the area under Romanian control working for the NKVD. While working in the NKVD, Vaisman gave himself a non-Jewish last name, Amurski. The tape ends with a discussion about Jewish holidays and religious customs.
